AI holds transformative potential for improving global health outcomes.

However, relying solely on market forces risks prioritizing adoption in resource-rich nations,

thereby widening the access gap for Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) and Low-Income Countries (LICs).

To counter this, intentional market design is essential to ensure that the most

vulnerable populations become the primary beneficiaries of AI innovation.

Co-hosted with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, alongside Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, The Global Fund,

and CEPI, this session will examine the tangible impact of AI across diverse domains—ranging from vaccine demand forecasting and epidemic preparedness R&D to HIV, TB, and malaria diagnostics, as well as last-mile delivery.

Moving beyond fragmented pilot projects, the discussion will focus on scalable financing, governance models,

and interoperable tools shared across institutions and nations. Ultimately,

the success of an AI-driven health market must be evaluated not by the technology itself,

but by concrete health outcomes: early threat detection, rapid supply of vaccines and diagnostics,

and expanded access in underserved regions. The session emphasizes that these efforts must be designed through open,

non-proprietary approaches centered on local leadership.
