| Session Synopsis | The APEC Health Working Group recently endorse its first Roadmap to Advance Dengue Prevention & Control in APEC Economies 2026 – 2030, a comprehensive and flexible regional strategy developed in collaboration with public health experts, government officials, and partners across APEC. This policy dialogue serves as a timely and strategic opportunity to launch the roadmap, foster alignment across APEC economies, and build a shared commitment to advancing domestic and regional dengue preparedness. This roadmap sets out key actions for APEC economies to tailor and implement based on their local dengue risks, health system capacities, and policy contexts and advances four core objectives: 1. To guide APEC economies in developing and implementing robust and multi-sectoral policies and legislation for sustainable funding and implementation of dengue prevention and control measures, tailored to their unique local contexts and epidemiological profiles, thereby accelerating progress towards the global goal of zero preventable dengue deaths by 2030. 2. To facilitate APEC economies' efforts in driving research, development, and innovation for new tools and interventions, while strengthening and harmonizing regionally coordinated surveillance systems and best practices for effective, integrated multi-prong dengue control measures. 3. To promote and solidify APEC and broader multi-sectoral and private-public partnerships among government, industry, academia, and civil society, ensuring knowledge sharing and collaboration for the effective rollout and long-term sustainability of dengue prevention and control programs across the region, including targeted support for vulnerable populations. 4. To strengthen regional dengue cooperation through the APEC Health Working Group platform, by promoting coordinated surveillance, best practices, and joint learning for enhanced regional preparedness and collective response capabilities against dengue. Through collective learning and collaborative action, APEC economies can reduce the health and economic burden of dengue and ensure a more resilient future for their populations. |
